The Beeb reports that the Ghanian Interior Minister is angry at the refugees in the Cap Anamur case. Reportedly picked up in a rubber dinghy by the German aid ship Cap Anamur, the refugees claimed to be fleeing the upheaval in Darfur. However, the great majority of them were found to be from Ghana, invalidated their claims of political asylum. An article from an Italian newspaper explains how they were caught:
A Nigerian, who was granted permission to stay in Italy in return for his cooperation, revealed to the Italian authorities the "real" nationalities of those on board. According to Associated Press, he also said a smuggler told the 37 to say they were Sudanese when they arrived in Italy.
