The developers of Gaim have released a new version, 0.76, with many exciting features.

More frightening is the news that the Gaim development team (due to internal differences) have decided to forgo Sourceforge's donation mechanism (which is ironic, since Gaim is touted as one of the reasons to donate) and have set up some eBay auctions instead. Among the items they have for sale is a used toothbrush, $10, a 10-inch Ethernet cable, and all of the components one would need to turn Sean Egan into a voodoo slave.

I love Gaim and all, but the auctions are so pathetic that I really feel like throwing money at them. In fact, maybe that is their insidious plot:

  1. Create pathetic eBay auctions, obstensibly to raise money...
  2. Create massive wave of pity in open source community...
  3. Switch to a donation-based system...
  4. Profit!

Unfortunately, somehow I doubt it.
