Reading in the New York Times about an explosion in the Moscow subway, I headed over to my favorite Russian online newspaper to see if there was any news about it. Alas, the precious space was used for articles on contraceptives, Japanese moustaches, bestiality, and our favorite lesbians (with the exception of the moustaches, it sounds like a conservative senator's nightmare).

Anyway, the leading article on the new female Chief of Inner Security of the Moscow Police Department seemed reasonably progressive at first glance. Then I scrolled down and saw an article on a beauty contest for Moscow policewomen:

The contest panel was composed of artistic people and policemen. They all agree that beauty is terrible power, and beauty with shoulder straps is much more terrible.

Choice photos (although no visible shoulder straps, sigh) here and here.
